Local News: Two-Day Senior Summit Explores the Art and Science of Aging

The “Fairbanks at 50+: The Art & Science of Aging Summit” is set to return for two days this week, aimed at helping Fairbanksans navigate the aging process. The event, which is open to everyone, will take place at the Carlson Center on Thursday, May 9, and Friday, May 10.

The summit aims to celebrate, inspire, and empower individuals who are 50 years old and older. It kicks off with the annual Fairbanks North Star Borough Senior Recognition Day Luncheon on Thursday. The luncheon includes a resource fair, entertainment, and lunch. Reservations are required for the luncheon, with doors opening at 10 a.m., and the ceremony beginning at 11 a.m. Following the luncheon, participants have the opportunity to join a leisurely stroll along the Chena River walking path, sponsored by Timber Creek Assisted Living Facility.

On Friday, the event runs from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., offering a free day of learning about well-being in aging. More than 40 vendors will provide information, classes, and demonstrations on topics such as arthritis management
