Thousands in the Budapest March of Life declare “No one can erase us”

During the end of World War II, approximately 565 thousand out of around 800 thousand Hungarian Jews were killed in extermination camps, including Auschwitz-Birkenau, on death marches, and on the banks of the Danube where they were shot for being Jewish. Today, a new generation is taking a stand against anti-Semitism and ensuring the continued existence of the Jewish people.

The March of Life in Budapest is led by prominent figures such as Major General Doron Almog, Chairman of the Jewish Agency; KKL Chairman Yifat Ovadia-Losky; and Israel’s Ambassador to Hungary Jacob Handsman. Along with them are numerous Holocaust survivors and their descendants who participate in the march as a symbol of victory and resilience.

Major General Doron Almog emphasized that despite a rise in anti-Semitism reminiscent of World War II, there has been a strong show of solidarity and support for the Jewish community. The Jewish Agency is committed to combating anti-Semitism and ensuring the continued existence of the Jewish people with the support of Israel.

Aviva Kenan, a survivor of the Budapest ghetto during the Holocaust, expressed her excitement for the march. She emphasized that it signifies a powerful message of strength and resilience for the Jewish community. The parade is led by Zionist Youth Nest in Hungary.

Beforehand, a poignant ceremony at Shoe Monument on Danube’s bank paid tribute to those murdered by being thrown into river during World War II. The march serves as a testament to their resilience and courage against all odds.

In conclusion, this March Of Life serves as an important reminder that we must never forget our past but use it to build better future for all humanity
