Yankees shut out Mariners 5-0 with another impressive performance by Luis Gil

The Seattle Mariners and New York Yankees split their four-game series, with the Yankees securing a 5-0 victory on Thursday afternoon. The standout performer of the game was Luis Gil, who delivered another impressive performance after coming off a 14-strikeout game against the Chicago White Sox.

Gil only allowed one hit over 6.1 innings, striking out eight batters and walking two to lower his season ERA to 2.11. Gil’s consistency has been remarkable, setting a new Yankees record with his 11th consecutive start of at least 5 innings and two earned runs or less.

The Yankees also received strong contributions from their key offensive players. Giancarlo Stanton launched a massive solo home run in the second inning, Aaron Judge added a homer in the third, and Juan Soto contributed with an RBI single in the seventh. When Stanton and Judge are both producing, the Yankees lineup becomes even more formidable. This game marked the 40th time that both Stanton and Judge have homered in the same game.

The entire Yankee starting lineup, with the exception of Anthony Rizzo, recorded at least one hit. Rizzo did contribute an RBI and got on base by being hit by a pitch. Multiple hits came from Volpe, Judge, and Oswaldo Cabrera. Clay Holmes closed out the game in the ninth inning, pitching in a non-save situation and striking out two batters despite allowing a couple of singles.

Looking ahead, the Yankees will now embark on a nine-game road trip starting with a series against the San Diego Padres. Carlos Rodon will face Yu Darvish in the series opener on Friday night at 9:40 p.m., as they look to continue their strong play on both sides of the plate.
