Sumter police are investigating more than $100,000 in damages to sports complex

The Sumter Police Department is actively seeking to identify the individual(s) responsible for vandalizing a sports complex, causing more than $100,000 in damages. A reward of up to $5,000 is being offered for any information that leads to an arrest in this case.

The damage occurred after the complex closed at 8 p.m. on Sunday and was discovered the following morning at Patriot Park. Graffiti made with black paint from the park’s storage area was found among the affected equipment, electronics, heating and air conditioning units, computers, camera/security systems, concession stand supplies and restrooms.

Officials at Sumter County Government expressed disappointment in the destruction of facilities at Patriot Park, which hosts numerous sporting events and draws around 350,000 people annually. They vowed to repair and clean up the damage and expressed support for law enforcement’s efforts to find those responsible for the vandalism.
