UN Special Rapporteur for Palestine Receives Threats Over Report of “Genocide” in Gaza

Francesca Albanese, the UN special rapporteur for the Occupied Palestinian Territories, has been receiving threats as a result of her report on Israel’s alleged use of “genocide” against the Palestinian population during the military offensive in Gaza Strip. Despite facing criticism and opposition, Albanese remains committed to her work and believes that the evidence she has gathered is significant.

Albanese expressed disappointment at the lack of response to her report from Western states, calling it surprising and indicating that they should be questioned about their position on the matter. She emphasized that her role is to ensure that member states comply with international law and that her report reveals the humanitarian camouflage used by Israel to portray their actions as isolated incidents rather than systematic violations of human rights.

In her report, presented on Monday, Albanese highlighted the criteria for genocide, including the murder of group members, infliction of physical or mental harm, and deliberate destruction of living conditions. She believes that her analysis will shed light on the situation and push for accountability for Israel’s actions.

Despite facing challenges and threats, Albanese remains undeterred and continues to amplify the voices of those affected by the conflict in Gaza Strip. She is determined to pursue justice and uphold international law in the face of criticism and opposition.
