Unveiling the Untold Story: The Power of Resilience in the Face of Loss and Stigma

As a journalist, I had the pleasure of interviewing Sue Loncar, who is bravely sharing her story in the documentary “Losing Grace Finding Hope.” Loncar fondly looks through a photo album dedicated to her daughter, Grace, and describes her as beautiful, precious, and greatly desired. Unfortunately, she lost her daughter to suicide in 2016 and still envisions Grace as a vibrant 16-year-old who would be 23 now.

As the Executive Producer of the documentary, Loncar emphasizes that depression does not discriminate and can affect anyone, regardless of outward appearances. She reflects on Grace’s life and the pain of losing her, recalling the day of her daughter’s passing vividly.

The film’s Writer/Producer/Director, Marica Carroll, stresses the importance of addressing the epidemic of suicide and breaking the stigma around discussing mental health. Through “Losing Grace Finding Hope,” Loncar and Carroll hope to provide solace and guidance to those struggling with the loss of a loved one to suicide.

The documentary is a project of the Grace Loncar Foundation and premiered at the Greenwich International Film Festival. It is in contention for a $10,000 Social Impact Grant. The film will also be shown at the Dallas International Film Festival at various times.

Loncar and Carroll encourage those facing mental health challenges to seek help and remind them that they are not alone.
