The High Cost of Long-Haul, Business-Class Flights Doesn’t Justify the Expense

I recently had the pleasure of flying business class on a 12-hour flight from Los Angeles to Auckland, New Zealand. Although these seats are typically priced at an astronomical $6,000, the experience was unparalleled. However, despite the luxury that I enjoyed, I couldn’t justify spending such a hefty sum again in the near future.

As someone who has always dreamed of flying first or business class, the allure of extra space, gourmet meals and unlimited champagne is undeniable. Every time I book a flight, my mind drifts towards the luxurious experience that these premium cabins offer. But reality checks in when you consider your budgetary constraints and splurging on such lavish flights is usually not an option.

My perspective on premium air travel underwent a significant shift in the summer of 2021 when I received an invitation from Air New Zealand to visit their headquarters and experience their newly redesigned cabins firsthand. This opportunity allowed me to fly business class for the very first time on my journey from Los Angeles to Auckland. The 12-hour flight was truly a once-in-a-lifetime experience that left me yearning for more luxurious journeys in the future.
