The United Kingdom has launched an investigation into OnlyFans to determine if the subscription platform is effectively preventing minors from accessing pornographic content. The UK’s Office of Communications (Ofcom) announced that it will be investigating the age verification measures implemented by OnlyFans to prevent minors from accessing inappropriate content.
OnlyFans is a platform that allows creators to monetize their content, including sexual material, though it faced a temporary ban in 2021. In response to this ban, the company implemented new age verification measures to prevent minors from accessing pornographic content on the platform. However, Ofcom stated that OnlyFans did not provide complete and accurate information in response to their legal requests, leading to the decision to launch an investigation.
The aim of this investigation is to determine whether OnlyFans is taking sufficient measures to prevent children from accessing pornographic material on the platform. The company, based in London, was asked to provide information about its age verification measures in compliance with regulations prior to the new Online Safety Law.
