Olkiluoto Triple Reactor to Resume Full Production on Wednesday Morning
The Power of Industry (TVO) has announced that the Olkiluoto triple reactor will resume full production on Wednesday morning at one o’clock. The reactor’s electricity production was suspended on Sunday evening, and according to TVO’s announcement, it will start producing electricity at 1285 megawatts already on Tuesday at 12 o’clock. If this happens, the decommissioning of the nuclear power plant will be reflected in the price of electricity only on Tuesday, as tomorrow’s electricity will be sold in Nordpool by 2 p.m. today.
Johanna, communications manager of Teollisuuden Voima (TVO), says that the company will immediately inform about any faults in the turbine plant when they are known in more detail. However, he emphasizes that there is no problem similar to last spring’s trial run but specifically a failure that occurred during use.
After years of problems and delays, the plant finally started regular electricity production in the spring of this year with a power of about 1540-1560 megawatts due to Fingrid restrictions. Olkiluoto’s second reactor stopped for weeks in August due to a fault in the generator’s cooling system, which caused other issues that limited electricity production and transmission capacity and fluctuated the price of electricity on the stock market at that time.
