In Santa Clara, California, Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Co (TSMC) announced that it will begin production of a new chip manufacturing technology called “A16” in the second half of 2026. This development was highlighted by the company’s co-Chief Operating Officer Y.J. Mii, who emphasized that this technology would enhance the speed of artificial intelligence chips by enabling power delivery to computing chips from the backside of the chip.
TSMC is well-known as the world’s largest contract manufacturer of chips, serving clients such as Nvidia and currently producing the fastest chips in the world. However, Intel made a statement in March claiming that it expects to surpass TSMC in chip speed with its “14A” technology in 2026. This announcement has sparked intense competition between these two major players in the chip market.
The race for innovation and speed in chip manufacturing is ongoing as companies strive to deliver faster and more efficient chips to meet growing consumer and business demands. The developments by TSMC and Intel demonstrate that this competition is far from over as technological advancements continue to drive fierce competition in the industry.
