In the Indiana Academic Super Bowl-Jr. Division competition, Washington Township Middle School Academic Teams stood out with Team Senator being named the 2024 Class 4 Science State Champions and the English and Social Studies Teams earning State Runner-Ups honors.
The WTMS Science Team, consisting of Addison Peres (captain), Jacob Barker, and Kirk VarnHagen, achieved a remarkable feat by claiming the Class 4 State title. The team answered 22 out of 25 questions correctly, surpassing all other competitors in their class. This victory marked Washington Township’s tenth Science State championship and fourth consecutive win in state history.
The WTMS English Team, led by Stephen Cannon (captain), Karson Kish, and Liam Swiatkowski, was recognized as Class 4 English Runner-Up after answering 22 out of 25 questions correctly. Moreover, the Social Studies Team, comprised of Addison Peres (captain), McKenna Bouchee, and Karson Kish, earned the title of Class Social Studies Runner-Up by answering 18 out of 25 questions correctly. Altogether, Washington Township Middle School’s Academic Teams have accumulated a total of 24 Academic State Championships in just over two decades of competition. As a result, they are now known as the most successful middle school in Porter County and the state as a whole.
