Oklahoma City Thunder guard Shai Gilgeous-Alexander has recently inked a “multi-year” shoe extension with Converse Basketball, as reported by Boardroom. Along with becoming the face of the brand, Gilgeous-Alexander has also been named as the Creative Director. This new role will give him the opportunity to contribute ideas and input for future product development. A signature shoe designed in collaboration with the two-time NBA All-Star is currently being produced and is set for release in 2025.
Gilgeous-Alexander joins an elite group of NBA players who have had signature shoes with Converse, a subsidiary of Nike. The list includes legends such as Julius Erving, Magic Johnson, Larry Bird, Larry Johnson, Dennis Rodman, Dwyane Wade, and Elton Brand. After initially signing with Nike following his first-round draft selection from Kentucky in 2018, Gilgeous-Alexander made the switch to Converse for the exclusive chance to showcase his unique personal style on and off the court.
With Oklahoma City Thunder preparing for the upcoming NBA playoffs, they are currently waiting to find out their first-round opponent. As the top seed in the Western Conference, they will face either New Orleans Pelicans or Sacramento Kings in a series that begins Sunday night.
