On Sunday morning at approximately 9:35 a.m., a traffic accident occurred on the A1 highway near Drežnik, Karlovac, according to the local police department. The accident involved a passenger car with Ogulin license plates that was being driven by a 55-year-old man. As a result of an inappropriate speed while navigating a slight curve, the car collided with the rear of a police vehicle with Zagreb license plates driven by a 56-year-old man.
The force of the impact caused both vehicles to be thrown into a metal guardrail on the central belt. After bouncing back onto the roadway, they sustained significant damage and were rendered unsafe for use. The 55-year-old driver suffered serious injuries in the accident, while the 56-year-old driver and his 53-year-old passenger sustained minor injuries.
The Karlovac Police Department is investigating the incident and has determined that it was caused by reckless driving on behalf of the 56-year-old driver. For this reason, he will be issued a mandatory misdemeanor order. Additionally, a report will be forwarded to the competent state attorney for further action against the offender.
