Nigeria Trial Proceeds While Binance Executive Tigran Gambaryan’s Health Declines in Jail

Tigran Gambaryan, the head of financial crime compliance at Binance, is still being held in detention in Nigeria despite facing charges of money laundering. His family spokesperson has stated that his health is deteriorating while in prison, with complaints of numbness in his foot and back pain. He has also had medical issues like double pneumonia and malaria while incarcerated.

Nigeria’s money laundering trial against Binance and two executives has been adjourned until July 5. The decision was made after the cross-examination of the first witness from the country’s Securities and Exchange Commission on Monday. During the trial, it was learned that one of the executives, Tigran Gambaryan, has not received his medical records from a hospital visit that occurred a month ago. Despite several court orders, the prison where Gambaryan is being held has not released the records.

The case against Binance continues to be a tax evasion case with charges against Gambaryan and Anjarwalla being dropped. The trial is adjourned until July 12. Binance declined to comment on the matter, but requests for comments were made to Nigeria SEC and Economic and Financial Crimes Commission by CoinDesk. U.S members of Congress have visited Gambaryan and are urging the U.S government to take further action
