The Parliamentary Elections of 2023: A Closer Look at the Losers and What it Means for Their Political Futures

In the recent parliamentary elections, many deputies of the 10th convocation fought for a new term in office. However, not all were successful and some entered the category of losers. Among them are the Social Democrats, who were founded in the fall of 2022 after being expelled from SDP for disobedience. Despite being the third political force in the country, the Homeland Movement failed to gain enough trust from voters and lost their mandate in a crucial constituency.

Davor Dretar Drele, an entertainer who won 4,703 preferential votes, also lost his parliamentary seat. Katarina Peović and Karolina Vidović Kristo, vocal critics of the ruling party, will no longer be seen in parliamentary debates. The Reformists, who had one mandate in the last convocation but failed to secure a representative this time around. Bojan Glavašević, a former independent representative who ran on Rijeka pravde list won 6.5 percent of preferential votes also lost his seat. Ermina Lekaj Prljaskaj, representing Albanian national minority also bid farewell to parliamentary benches.

These losses represent a significant blow to these politicians’ careers and highlight how important it is for parties and individuals to maintain public trust and support if they want to succeed in politics.
