The Florida Panthers finally got their chance to shine as they celebrated their first Stanley Cup win in franchise history on Sunday morning. Hundreds of fans had arrived by 6:30 am, eager to secure their spots for the parade. By 7:30, Elbo Room was already filling up and by 9 am, it was packed to capacity with no room left for more.
The Panthers’ victory was a significant accomplishment, especially considering the dominance of more established sports franchises in the area like the Marlins, Heat, and Dolphins. But the Panthers had long played in the shadows of these teams and their success on the ice had finally garnered the support and attention they deserved.
The momentum had been building for the Panthers since their appearance in the Finals the previous year and culminated in their victory over Edmonton Oilers in seven games. The morning after their win, Matthew Tkachuk brought the Stanley Cup to Elbo Room where fans had a chance to get up close and personal with it. The cup made its rounds taking a dip in Atlantic Ocean even being used as pasta bowl by Panthers legend Robert Luongo.
Shandel Richardson, publisher of Inside The Heat covered the event highlighting its historic achievement and impact on local sports scene.
