Great Britain falls to Slovakia with 7-1 defeat in the Ice Hockey Women’s World Championship

In the Division 1 Group B of the Ice Hockey Women’s World Championship in Latvia, Great Britain lost a tough 7-1 match to top seeds Slovakia. The game began with Slovakia taking an early lead, scoring two quick goals in Riga. However, Katie Marsden stepped up and scored a well-placed shot into the bottom corner, bringing the score to 2-1 at the end of the first period.

Despite Marsden’s efforts, Slovakia continued to dominate the game by scoring four more goals in the second period, followed by another goal in the final minute, resulting in a final score of 7-1 for Slovakia. Ema Galisova was named as Slovakia’s leading scorer with two goals to her name.

Marsden was recognized as GB’s player of the game for her determined performance, while Slovakia’s goaltender Andrea Risianova received the award for her exceptional saves in the final period that helped secure victory for her team. With this loss, GB is now five points behind Slovakia and has one win, one defeat and one overtime loss after three matches so far.

Nevertheless, GB is gearing up for their next match against Slovenia on April 5th and will face hosts Latvia on April 6th. The winning team from this group will be promoted to Division 1 Group A, adding even more pressure for Great Britain as they fight for a spot in the next round.
