On Sunday, June 16, a group of prisoners at pre-trial detention center No. 1 in Rostov-on-Don took two employees hostage and demanded transport, according to TASS sources in law enforcement agencies. The attackers were armed with knives, sharpeners, fire axes, and rubber batons taken from the guards. Negotiations are currently underway to free the hostages.
It is being reported that the prisoners responsible for the hostage situation are accused of terrorist crimes, including connections with the Islamic State. Further information is still being clarified. A Telegram channel, 112, has released footage with statements from the terrorists, noting that they were arrested in 2022 while planning to blow up the Supreme Court of the Karachay-Cherkess Republic in the Russian Federation.
