Sydney McLaughlin-Levrone: Breaking Boundaries with New World Record in 400m Hurdles at US Trials

Sydney McLaughlin-Levrone, the reigning Olympic champion in the 400m hurdles, set yet another world record on Sunday at the US Trials in Eugene. This time, she shaved off a mere 0.03 seconds from her previous record, finishing in a blazing time of 50.65. The race was one of the fastest in history, with four women clocking times under 53 seconds. However, McLaughlin-Levrone still managed to dominate by nearly two seconds.

From the start, McLaughlin-Levrone took command and never looked back. She surged ahead of her competitors, including Anna Cockrell who finished second with a personal best time of 52.64 and Jasmine Jones who finished third with a personal best time of 52.77. McLaughlin-Levrone’s impressive performance allowed her to cross the finish line with a commanding lead over her rivals.

This is not the first time that McLaughlin-Levrone has broken records at the US Trials. In 2021, she set a world record of 51.90 in the 400m hurdles and later lowered it to 51.46 to win the Olympic gold in Tokyo. She continued her streak in 2022, setting a new world record of 51.41 at the US Championships before winning the world title in Oregon with a time of 50.68 – which also happened to be her fifth consecutive world championship title!

Hayward Field in Eugene has been lucky for McLaughlin-Levrone as she has set four out of her five world records there – including her latest feat on Sunday night.
