Summer of Freebies: Allegheny County Residents Get Access to Pittsburgh’s Top Attractions for Free Through RAD Program

This summer, Allegheny County residents have the chance to enjoy some of Pittsburgh’s top attractions for free. The Allegheny Regional Asset District (RAD) has announced that more than a dozen regional assets will be offering over 100,000 free tickets from May to August. To access these free tickets, all individuals need is an Allegheny County library card and a reservation.

Last year, the Andy Warhol Museum, Children’s Museum, and Heinz History Center were open free of charge every operating day. RAD received positive feedback from many visitors who mentioned they would not have been able to afford to visit otherwise. In response to this feedback, RAD Board Chair Dan Griffin emphasized that regional assets should give back to taxpayers who fund these projects.

This year, attractions participating in the program include the zoo, Carnegie Museum of Natural History, National Aviary, and Phipps Conservatory. Instead of having a traditional RAD Day, these attractions will offer a calendar of free days throughout the summer to spread out the crowds and make it more convenient for visitors to find a suitable time. The free admission dates will be available on RADPass.org starting May 1, with more offers being added throughout the summer.

RAD encourages individuals to be considerate neighbors by canceling reservations if they can’t make it so that someone else can take advantage of the opportunity. By providing these free tickets, RAD hopes to give back to the community and encourage residents to explore all that Pittsburgh has to offer this summer.
