An armed individual was taken into custody at 12:31 P.M., according to Normal Police, who responded to the 200 block of Susan Drive at 10:17 a.m. for a report of a subject with a knife. Officers surrounded the individual and initiated communication, successfully de-escalating the situation by 11:40 a.m. The police department’s crisis negotiation team, Illinois State University Police, and McLean County Sheriff’s Office were all present at the scene.
As of 12:20 P.M., the scene is secure and no longer active, with no reported injuries or threats to the public. Normal Police and other local law enforcement agencies are urging the public to avoid the area of Susan and Parkway Plaza drives due to ongoing concerns for their safety. Nearby businesses should also be avoided until further notice.
