Shrewsbury Business Gears Up for Weather Impact This Week

As Spring arrives in Shrewsbury, the town is greeted by chirping birds and longer days. However, meteorologists are predicting up to 8 inches of snow for parts of Central Massachusetts as a storm moves in on Wednesday.

Fred Betti, owner of Papa’s Hardware, is preparing for the upcoming storm. Despite receiving shipments of spring flowers, Betti has put away the blooms and is now stocking up on winter gear like shovels and ice melt. Fortunately for him, he has plenty of supplies to keep his customers ready for whatever the weather throws their way.

The National Weather Service forecasts a mix of snow and rain starting Wednesday morning, with Worcester likely seeing 1 to 2 inches of snow by evening. A winter storm watch has been issued for Northern Worcester County from Wednesday morning to Thursday evening, with total snow and sleet accumulations of 2 to 4 inches, potentially up to 8 inches near the New Hampshire border.

Betti mentioned that he has a delivery of cold-tolerant crops coming in on Wednesday, but due to the harsh weather, they will need to be brought inside immediately. As frustrating as it is to deal with winter weather in the spring, Betti is prepared for whatever comes on Wednesday, hoping for nicer weather soon.
