Knesset Approves Printing Images of Smoking Damage on Tobacco Products and Cigarettes

The finance minister recently approved a decree proposed by Bezalel Smotrich to increase the purchase tax on various smoking products. As a result, the cost of a pack of cigarettes rose by two shekels, electronic cigarette filler increased by one shekel per milliliter, and rolling tobacco saw a price hike of 13 shekels per gram. The purchase tax on unprocessed tobacco, cigarettes, other vaping tobacco, and tobacco heating devices also went up.

The bill to increase taxes on smoking products was the outcome of a contentious debate held during a non-smoking day in the Knesset. It is crucial for us to focus on prevention in order to improve public health. By implementing these measures, we hope to send a strong social and educational message about the risks of smoking, not only to the individual but also to their environment, family, and friends.

One of the main objectives of this bill is to discourage smoking and make harmful products less accessible and affordable. This ultimately reduces the prevalence of smoking in society as a whole. By prioritizing public health and taking proactive steps to address the negative impact of smoking on individuals and society as a whole, we can make significant progress towards improving overall well-being.

In addition to its health benefits, this bill also aims to raise revenue for government programs that support smokers who wish to quit or reduce their nicotine intake. This will provide them with essential resources and support they need to achieve their goals.

Overall, this bill represents an important step towards creating a healthier future for all members of our community. By raising awareness about the dangers of smoking and making it more difficult for people to access harmful products, we can help prevent future generations from suffering from related diseases and illnesses.
