MLB unveils new rules and format for 2024 Home Run Derby

Major League Baseball is making changes to the 2024 All-Star Home Run Derby, set to take place on July 15 at Globe Life Field in Arlington, Texas. The event has been prompted by feedback from past participants who felt that it was moving too quickly.

One of the key changes is that players will now face a maximum of 40 pitches within each of the Derby’s three timed rounds. Previously, participants hurried through as many swings as possible within the time limit. This change is meant to address concerns about the physical toll that the fast pace of the competition could potentially have on players.

While the time limits for each round will remain the same, certain hitters will have the opportunity to earn bonus time by hitting particularly long home runs. This change could allow players to continue hitting until they surpass their opponent’s score, creating a more competitive atmosphere.

The format of the Derby has also been altered, with the top four first-round scores now advancing to the semifinals. In case of ties,
