Sizzling Barbecues: The Grilling Boom Continues and Brings Increased Sales for Manufacturers and Accessories

Grilling is more popular than ever, with people spending more money on barbecuing today than ever before. With temperatures rising, many people are turning to the grill for dinner, and there are now countless options available. From small electric grills for balconies to fully equipped outdoor kitchens, there’s a grill for everyone and every budget.

The barbecue boom started about six years ago and has since grown significantly. Manufacturers like Napoleon and Weber-Stephenthe have seen increased sales due to this trend. The growth in the industry is not just due to higher sales but also to the fact that people today are willing to spend more money on leisure activities, including premium grills.

Weber-Stephenthe offers entry-level kettle grills for around 300 euros, while gas grills from Napoleon start at roughly 400 euros. Premium models can cost between 1,000 and 2,000 euros, with complete outdoor kitchens costing 5,000 euros and above. Accessories like stainless steel grill trays or rib racks are also in high demand, with customers willing to pay a premium for them.

Meat producers are also benefiting from the barbecue boom, with sausages being the most popular grilled meat product according to a recent study. However, there is a trend towards meat-free grilling, with almost 80% of people saying they like to grill vegetables. Plant-based meat alternatives are also gaining popularity, with companies like Berger Schinken entering the market with plant-based sausages.

Opinions differ on how to heat a grill, with charcoal and briquettes advocates citing smoky aromas and ambiance while gas and electric appliances are preferred for ease of use and better temperature regulation. Gas and electricity are also considered more environmentally friendly compared to charcoal which emits nearly three times as much when burned. Sustainability experts recommend looking for sustainability seals on charcoal products or buying from local charcoal burners for a more eco-friendly option.
