For Valentine’s Day, the Tulsa Health Department’s substance abuse prevention program and the StopDUI Task Force are encouraging residents to drink responsibly or opt for a mocktail. The two organizations have collaborated to present a Facebook Live mocktail tutorial on February 9th, featuring THD Prevention Specialist Kandice Lawson and Oklahoma County Sheriff’s Office Sgt. Eric Kirby sharing recipes for festive drinks.
The “Circus of Love” mocktail is made with one large carbonated beverage, marshmallow fluff, cotton candy, and sprinkles. To make this drink, roll the rim of the glass in marshmallow fluff, dip it in sprinkles, pour ¾ of the carbonated beverage into the glass and stir in several handfuls of cotton candy.
The “Stop in the Name of Love” mocktail is another delicious option for Valentine’s Day. It requires 2 ounces each of sparkling hibiscus red grape juice, lemon-lime soda, and orange juice. Crush some ice and add it to a glass along with the juices. Stir or shake the mixture depending on whether you are using a cocktail shaker and strain it into a chilled glass full of crushed ice. Garnish with several Valentine’s Candy Hearts and a single orange wheel before serving.
If you prefer punch over cocktails or mocktails, try “Kandi-Coated Punch”. This refreshing drink is made by adding strawberries and raspberries to one liter of Sprite, half a liter of Simply Lemonade with Raspberry Juice – 52 fl oz , half a liter of Simply Lemonade with Strawberry Juice – 52 fl oz , and half a liter Dole 100% Pineapple Juice – 46 fl oz can . Stir well before serving over ice.
