Cameroon Football Association Surprised by Sports Ministry’s Choice of New Team Coach

The Cameroon Football Federation was taken aback by the news that the Sports Ministry had appointed Marc Brys as the new coach of the national team, replacing Rigobert Song. The federation issued a statement expressing their astonishment at the decision, stating that it was made unilaterally and in violation of Decree No. 2014/384 regarding the organization of national football teams.

The federation had no prior knowledge of Brys’ appointment and is currently investigating the matter. FIFA prohibits government involvement in national football, and Song, whose contract expired after the Africa Cup of Nations, led the team to the round of 16 in the tournament earlier this year.

The federation is seeking clarity on this matter and is working to resolve it. They are in contact with FIFA to address concerns about Brys’ appointment without their consent. The federation’s statement expressed disappointment over the lack of consultation in the decision-making process and emphasized the importance of following regulations governing national football teams.

The Sports Ministry has not yet responded to requests for comment on this matter.
