Armand Duplantis, the pole vault athlete, achieved his seventh world record at the Diamond League Final. After clearing six meters, 23 centimeters, Duplantis celebrated by running over the stands with his arms raised in the air. This was the second world record set at the season-ending meet, with Ethiopia’s Gudaf Tsegay also breaking the women’s 5,000-meter record. Duplantis needed only one attempt to clear 6.23m, a centimeter higher than his previous record. His historic jump placed him far ahead of Ernest John Obiena, who finished in second place.
Duplantis expressed his excitement after setting the world record and expressed hope to achieve even greater heights in his career. Tsegay, the women’s 5,000-meter record breaker, took nearly five seconds off the previous record and narrowly missed breaking the 14-minute barrier. The efforts of both athletes have helped to lower the women’s 5,000m record by nearly 11 seconds over the past three years.
