Scottish goalkeeper Andy Firth has left Cymru Premier side Nomads to take up a coaching role at Saudi Pro League club Al-Ettifaq. The 27-year-old played 32 times for Nomads last season, helping them lift the Welsh Cup. In a social media post, Firth expressed his gratitude to the team and staff for the past two years, highlighting the Welsh Cup win as a special achievement.
Firth began his career in Liverpool’s academy before playing for Barrow before joining Rangers in January 2019. Despite limited playing time at Ibrox, he made a significant impact during his time at Nomads after joining the club in July 2022. Firth’s new role at Al-Ettifaq marks an exciting chapter in his career, where he will continue to work alongside experienced coaches and contribute to the development of goalkeepers at the club.
Firth will be working as an assistant goalkeeping coach under his former Rangers boss Steven Gerrard, with former Liverpool goalkeeping coach John Achterberg named as Al-Ettifaq’s head goalkeeping coach. This is a great opportunity for Firth to further develop his skills and gain valuable experience working with top coaches in one of Asia’s most competitive leagues.
