Science Fairs: A Unique Opportunity for Fifth Graders at McKinley Elementary to Develop their Scientific Skills and Learn from Real-World Experts

Fifth graders from McKinley Elementary recently showcased their science projects to a panel of judges, including Lisbon Mayor Peter Wilson, Board of Education members, state highway patrol and police officers, and other community members. The students presented a variety of projects with topics ranging from egg shell durability to the impact of games on stress.

One project that stood out was presented by student Kole Phillips who explored the relationship between games and stress. Lisbon Board of Education Member Brittany Tyler was particularly impressed with this project. Meanwhile, Lisbon Board of Education President T.K. Hiscox judged a project on egg shell durability by Skylar Lewis and Myriah Moore. State Highway Trooper Nathan Bowlen listened to Teagan Triplett and Aubree Keys discuss their experiment on soap versus grease.

The students were proud to present their projects and engage with the judges, seeking feedback and insights from the experts in attendance. It was a valuable learning experience for the students as they were able to showcase their scientific knowledge and communication skills in a real-world setting. The community members who served as judges also showed their support and interest in the students’ work, creating a collaborative and engaging environment for the science fair.
