Pelicans Struggle on Three-Game Losing Streak Against the Spurs

On Friday at 8 p.m. EDT, the San Antonio Spurs (18-58, 15th in the Western Conference) will face off against the New Orleans Pelicans (45-31, seventh in the Western Conference) in New Orleans. The Pelicans are coming into the matchup on a three-game losing streak and have a record of 9-6 against opponents in the Southwest Division.

The Pelicans are ranked eighth in the league for allowing just 110.6 points per game while holding opponents to 46.1% shooting. On the other hand, the Spurs have a record of 10-30 in games decided by 10 points or more and are struggling with injuries to key players such as Jeremy Sochan, Devin Vassell, Keldon Johnson, Dominick Barlow, and Charles Bassey.

In terms of shooting percentages, the Pelicans are shooting 48.6% from the field this season, slightly lower than the 49.0% that the Spurs allow to their opponents. The Spurs are shooting 46.2% from the field, slightly higher than the 46.1% that their opponents have shot this season but still struggling with scoring opportunities due to injuries and poor play overall performance.

This will be their fourth meeting this season and it’s important for both teams to win as it could be a chance for them to make a push towards playoffs if they can maintain their momentum throughout these last few weeks of regular season games.

Key players for the Pelicans include Jonas Valanciunas who is averaging 22 points per game and shooting an impressive percentage of .560%, Zion Williamson who is averaging .27 points per game over his last ten games and Brandon Ingram who is also averaging .27 points per game over his last ten games but unfortunately he won’t be playing.
