Ruth Mostern: Advancing Global History as WHA Vice President and President-Elect

Ruth Mostern, a distinguished historian and academic, has been named as the new Vice President of the World History Association (WHA). In addition to this role, she will also serve as the President-Elect of the organization and is set to take over as President in 2026 for a two-year term. Mostern currently serves as Director of Pitt’s World History Center and is a Professor in the Department of History at the University of Pittsburgh.

Mostern expressed her gratitude for being elected as Vice President and President-Elect of WHA, stating that it was an honor to be part of such a prestigious professional organization dedicated to promoting world history through teaching, research, publications, and personal interactions. She emphasized that this recognition was not just about her but also signified the high regard for leadership from numerous historians at Pitt and from the Pitt World History Center who are committed to studying history through global and transregional frameworks.

The WHA is a professional association that brings together scholars, teachers, and students committed to promoting world history on a global scale. Its annual meeting attracts over 300 academic historians, college instructors, and secondary school teachers each year to share cutting-edge research and teaching methodologies in world history. The WHA’s summer conference hosted by Pitt’s World History Center in 2023 attracted hundreds of participants from around the world.
