Putin blames radical Islamists for Moscow attack, questions motives

On Monday, Russian President Vladimir Putin acknowledged that the attack on a concert hall outside of Moscow last Friday was carried out by radical Islamists. The incident resulted in at least 139 fatalities. Putin stated during a press conference that the crime was committed by individuals with an ideology that has been fought against for centuries in the Islamic world.

Despite acknowledging the involvement of radical Islamists, Putin raised questions about who would benefit from such an attack. He suggested that Ukrainian authorities may be linked to the event and emphasized the importance of continuing to investigate further in order to uncover the true motives behind the attack.

Putin connected this attack to those who have been opposing Russia since 2014, referring to them as a neo-Nazi regime in Kyiv. He believed that the perpetrators were attempting to spread chaos in Russia but highlighted the unity and determination of the Russian people to resist such evil acts.

Alexander Bastrikin, director of Russia’s Investigative Committee (FSB), provided details about the attack, including a timeline of events and information on weapons used by suspects. Over 200 searches and seizures related to this case have taken place, resulting in 11 arrests for involvement with terrorism.

The suspects have confessed to their involvement in this crime and some have already been sentenced provisionally for terrorism charges. Among them are a father and his two sons who are alleged to have assisted perpetrators with accommodation, transportation, and money.

Investigations into this incident remain ongoing as authorities work to understand fully extent of suspects’ involvement and what motivated them to carry out this heinous act. President Putin has emphasized once again that it is crucial for thorough investigative efforts be carried out in order to uncover all truth behind this tragic event.

Overall, while acknowledging involvement of radical Islamists, Putin still raises questions about who could benefit from such an attack and emphasizes importance of continuing investigation into true motives behind it.
