Rose successfully qualifies for Open, while Garcia once again misses the mark

Justin Rose successfully qualified for the Open Championship at Royal Troon, finishing his day at Burnham Burrow in Somerset on eight under par to secure one of the four qualifying spots. He tied for the top spot with fellow Englishman Dominic Clemons, who had previously been denied a spot in the tournament.

Rose, a veteran of the tournament who has played in every Open since 2007, will be looking to improve on his previous performances. Meanwhile, Sergio Garcia fell short for the second year in a row, finishing two strokes shy of qualifying despite hoping to play in his 100th major at this year’s Open. His low world ranking as a result of joining LIV Golf means he only qualifies for the Masters.

Three other successful qualifiers included Dan Brown, Sam Horsfield and Royal Liverpool amateur Matthew Dodd-Berry while Jack McDonald secured his spot through a play-off at Dundonald Links. The 152nd Open Championship is set to take place on 18-21 July.
