Revolutionizing Rescue: Hong Kong Fire Department Acquires the World’s Largest Self-Righting Firefighting Boat

In recent years, the Hong Kong Fire Department has been on the hunt for a new self-balancing firefighting boat that could recover after capsizing within seconds. After much consideration, the department has chosen a vessel built by Lungteh shipyard in Taiwan. This boat is considered the world’s largest self-righting firefighting boat and will be used for maritime research and rescue operations in Hong Kong waters.

The self-righting function of the ship is what makes it so unique and valuable to the Hong Kong Fire Department. It allows for continued rescue and firefighting operations even in challenging conditions, improving the protection of firefighters on board and enhancing mobility in adverse weather. The 35-40 meter long vessel, weighing about 200 tons, will undergo several months of testing at To Ao port in Nghi Lan district and crew training before it is officially put into use.

The construction and handover process of this new addition to the Hong Kong Fire Department’s fleet has been ongoing despite delays caused by the COVID-19 pandemic. However, with a balance arm that allows the vessel to return to an upright position when rolling, this new ship aims to enhance their capabilities in responding to emergencies and conducting rescue operations at sea.

Lungteh Shipyard is no stranger to building ships for various government agencies in Hong Kong. Over the past few years, authorities have been looking for a new ship model that could strengthen maritime search and rescue activities in rough sea conditions. To meet this need, Lungteh will also construct two command ships over the next few years to replace existing ones.

In conclusion, this new self-balancing firefighting boat is set to revolutionize maritime rescue operations in Hong Kong waters. With its state-of-the-art technology and capabilities, it will enable firefighters to respond quickly and effectively to any emergency situation at sea while ensuring their safety at all times.
