Revolutionizing Memory Technology: Samsung’s Faster and Smaller LPDDR5X DRAM for On-Device AI Applications

Samsung has announced a new, faster version of its LPDDR5X DRAM that runs at 10.7Gbps, which is over 11% faster than the LPDDR5T variant offered by its competitor SK Hynix. This new chip is not only faster but also significantly smaller, making it ideal for use in on-device AI applications.

The demand for low-power, high-performance memory grows as more devices adopt AI technologies. According to YongCheol Bae, Executive Vice President of Memory Product Planning at Samsung Electronics, LPDDR DRAM is expected to have broader applications beyond mobile devices, including in PCs, accelerators, servers, and automobiles. Samsung is committed to innovation and collaboration with customers to deliver optimized products for the on-device AI era.

The 10.7Gbps LPDDR5X from Samsung offers increased performance by over 25% and capacity by more than 30% compared to LPDDR5. It also increases the single package capacity of mobile DRAM to 32GB. The LPDDR5X includes power-saving technologies that improve power efficiency by 25% and allow the chip to enter low-power mode for extended periods.

Samsung plans to start mass production of the 10.7Gbps LPDDR5X DRAM in the second half of the year upon successful verification with mobile application processor (AP) and mobile device providers. This advancement in memory technology is set to impact various industries and applications, further driving innovation and performance enhancements in the tech sector.

With this new announcement from Samsung Electronics, we can expect a significant boost in low-power memory technology that will drive advancements across multiple industries such as automotive, IoT, gaming, and data center computing.

Samsung’s latest offering in Low Power Density Double Data Rate (LPDDR) DRAM provides an increase in speed by over 11%, making it a formidable competitor against SK Hynix’s offerings.

The new chip runs on a smaller size while maintaining high performance standards. This makes it perfect for use in on-device AI applications where space is at a premium.

With increasing demand for low-power yet high-performance memory across various industries such as PCs, accelerators, servers and automobiles; Samsung’s decision to produce these chips on a smaller process makes them highly sought after.

In conclusion, Samsung’s latest offering in LPDDR DRAM promises increased speed and capacity while maintaining energy efficiency standards. The company’s commitment towards innovation and customer collaboration will undoubtedly lead to further advancements in memory technology across multiple industries.
