Numerous cases of bribery uncovered in obtaining driver’s licenses, with bribes reaching up to 400 thousand drams, according to anti-corruption reports

The Anti-Corruption Committee has released a report stating that over 30 individuals have been implicated as defendants in a preliminary investigation involving bribes for driver’s licenses. The investigation found that a senior inspector from the registration-examination department in Armavir marz, along with his friend, accepted bribes of up to 400 thousand AMD each from citizens seeking driver’s licenses.

The senior inspector and his friend conducted formal theoretical and practical exams for around 30 applicants, creating fake documents based on these exams to issue licenses. In total, they received 6.5 million AMD in bribes from all the applicants in 2023.

However, some candidates did not even participate in the exams, resulting in many people obtaining driver’s licenses illegally and posing a threat to road traffic. The Anti-Corruption Committee emphasized this danger in their report.

The senior inspector was charged with abuse of official powers and the influence caused by them, as well as official fraud. His friend was also charged with receiving a bribe from a criminal. The case materials have been sent to court with an indictment.
