Manchester United mourns the passing of former player Jeff White at the age of 90. One of the original ‘Busby Babes’, Whitefoot joined the Red Devils straight from school in the summer of 1949. He quickly became known for his perceptive and precise passing skills, making him one of the most influential midfielders in England during the mid-1950s.
During his eight seasons at Old Trafford under Sir Matt Busby, Whitefoot made 95 appearances and was part of two title-winning sides in 1952 and 1956. After leaving United, he moved to Grimsby Town before returning to the top flight with Nottingham Forest in 1958. Over his time at Nottingham Forest, he made a remarkable 285 appearances and played a key role in their 1959 FA Cup-winning team.
United paid tribute to Whitefoot by saying they were “deeply saddened” by his passing, calling him a “delightfully unassuming character”. They added that he would always hold a special place in club folklore due to his impressive playing style and contributions to the team’s successes over the years.
