Eiffel Tower Sets Record After Bizarre Matchstick Dispute

Richard Plaud’s record-breaking Eiffel Tower will be entered in the Guinness Book of Records, marking a turnaround in the case that had been deemed too strict about the nature of the games. The Frenchman made two serious mistakes in his attempt, using 706,900 matches for his passion project and cutting off the heads of the matchsticks. The Guinness Book considered these mistakes to be major, but after a week of discussion, it was decided that they were not enough to disqualify Richard from the record race. He describes this experience as an “emotional rollercoaster ride,” and says he is grateful for the opportunity to have his work recognized.
