Allegations result in Craig Monroe being removed from TV broadcasts

A woman on Twitter and Instagram has accused Craig Monroe, the primary television analyst for the Detroit Tigers, of raping her when she was a child while he stayed with her family during his time with the Port Charlotte Rangers in the minor leagues. Monroe played for the Port Charlotte Rangers from 1997-1999 before his career progressed.

The allegations were first made public on social media and have since been confirmed by Bally Sports Detroit and the Tigers. The organizations are taking the allegations seriously and have not yet decided whether to take any disciplinary action against Monroe.

Monroe has not appeared on any broadcasts since the Tigers hosted the Milwaukee Brewers from June 7-9. His absence from the broadcast schedule is indefinite, and any further questions were directed to him personally.

The 47-year-old former baseball player has been a member of the Tigers broadcast team for several years following his time playing in Detroit from 2003-2007. His MLB career spanned from 2001 to 2009 and included stops in Texas, Chicago (Cubs), Minnesota, and Pittsburgh.
