Wisconsin Ranked as One of the Worst Economies in the Nation by WalletHub, Comes in Last for Economic Activity

According to a recent ranking by WalletHub, Wisconsin’s economy is not doing well. The study, which was released on June 3, 2024, ranked the state 40 out of 51 for its overall economy.

The rankings were based on three main factors: Economic Activity, Economic Health, and Innovation Potential. In terms of economic activity, Wisconsin ranked last in the country. For economic health, it came in at 31st place. However, when it comes to innovation potential, Wisconsin fared better with a ranking of 21st.

The Economic Activity factor looked at a state’s change in gross domestic product (GDP), share of fast-growing firms, startup activity, and exports per capita. When it came to this factor, Wisconsin had the second-lowest change in GDP and the second-least startup activity in the rankings.

Overall, Wisconsin did not perform well compared to other states in this study. This highlights the need for improvement in certain areas if the state wants to strengthen its economy and remain competitive on a national level.
