The Jets have made a significant change to their starting quarterback, benching rookie Zach Wilson in favor of Tim Boyle. On Monday, the team announced that Trevor Siemian would serve as Boyle’s backup, with the former practice squad player officially signed to the active roster on Tuesday. Additionally, cornerback Craig James was added to the practice squad.
While Siemian has some experience as a starter, having filled in for an injured Sam Darnold in a game for the Jets in 2019, he suffered an ankle injury early in that game and missed the rest of the season. He has also had stints with the Bengals, Bears and Saints, starting games for each of those teams. In total, he has 24 games as a starter for the Broncos in 2016 and 2017. Despite this experience, Boyle will be starting for the Jets at present.
