In a speech at an event in Rome, Spanish Deputy Prime Minister and Labour Minister Yolanda Díaz proposed that the next European Commission should have a commissioner dedicated to the social economy portfolio. She emphasized the importance of promoting the social economy as a way to address current challenges facing the EU.
Díaz highlighted the Liège Roadmap, which she described as an essential guide to making the social economy a priority on the European political agenda. She argued that the roadmap requires a commissioner with a new portfolio focused on the social economy’s unique challenges.
Additionally, Díaz called for the renewal of the Social Economy Intergroup in the European Parliament, which is supported by over 100 MEPs from different political groups. She expressed her commitment to promoting the social economy as a cross-cutting element in the EU’s policies.
