Venezuelans in Argentina seek help from Pope Francis

The Vatican has received a letter from Venezuelans living in Argentina, requesting Pope Francis’ help in ensuring that all Venezuelans living abroad have the right to vote in the upcoming presidential elections scheduled for July 28th. The letter, sent through the Jesuit Migrant Service, expresses gratitude for the pope’s efforts and calls for the human and constitutional rights of Venezuelans to be respected.

The electoral situation in Venezuela remains tense, with reports of pressure and persecution of opponents. Despite around 220 thousand Venezuelans residing in Argentina, only 2.2 thousand are currently able to vote at the Venezuelan consulate in Buenos Aires. This has led to an appeal from Argentine Venezuelans seeking increased pressure on Maduro’s government to fulfill electoral commitments and recognize the rights of Venezuelans.
