Patriots and Jahlani Tavai reach a three-year contract extension

The New England Patriots have secured another important piece of their roster by agreeing to a three-year contract extension with linebacker Jahlani Tavai. The deal is said to have a base value of $15 million, which could rise to $21 million. Tavai, 27, was in the final year of a two-year extension he signed in 2022 after being drafted by the Lions in the second round in 2019. He was released by Detroit at the start of the 2021 season before joining the Patriots’ practice squad and eventually earning a spot on the team.

In 2023, Tavai had a standout season with 110 total tackles, five tackles for loss, four QB hits, one sack, and two interceptions. The Patriots have been proactive this offseason in extending contracts for players entering the final year of their deals, with Tavai joining the likes of Rhamondre Stevenson, Christian Barmore, and David Andrews in agreeing to new deals. The team is making sure to solidify its roster for the future by ensuring key players remain with the organization.
