Pat Kelsey from CofC could potentially become Louisville’s next coach | Sports

Louisville is reportedly set to hire College of Charleston basketball coach Pat Kelsey, following the dismissal of Kenny Payne earlier this month. According to sources, Kelsey is finalizing a deal that will see him take over as the Cardinals’ new coach either on Wednesday or Thursday. Over the past three seasons, Kelsey has led College of Charleston to a 74-27 overall record and a marked 39-15 record in the Coastal Athletic Association. His standout year was in 2022-23, where he guided the Cougars to a historic 31-4 record and set a program record for the most wins at the NCAA Division I level.

Several key players from the Cougars have entered the transfer portal amidst the coaching change, but Kelsey’s adaptability to evolving college sports landscape and his willingness to embrace elements like the transfer portal and name, image, and likeness have set him apart. If he makes the transition to Louisville, he would be following in the footsteps of Earl Grant who moved from CofC to Boston College in 2021.
