Recently, Sebring students and their families gathered at B.L. Miller Elementary gymnasium for a family engagement night that was nothing short of out of this world. Over 200 attendees had the opportunity to explore space in a mobile planetarium called “Sky Dome”, presented by Mobile Ed Productions. The event, sponsored by United Way’s Success After 6 program, aimed to ignite curiosity and interest in space exploration following the solar eclipse on April 8.
Jill Dennis, the family engagement coordinator for Sebring Local Schools and Success After 6 coordinator, expressed gratitude for the collaboration that made the event possible. Families had a great time learning about the sun, moon, stars, and universe in a unique and engaging way. Partners In Education (P.I.E.) contributed to the event by providing food for purchase, with funds raised going towards future activities and events for Sebring students.
In addition to the planetarium tours, families enjoyed playing bingo in between sessions, with winners receiving Oh WOW! STEM Sak bundles. One lucky student even won a National Geographic 70m Sky View Telescope as a grand prize, courtesy of SA6. Mobile Ed Productions provided an enriching and interactive experience for all attendees with their live educational entertainment assemblies and workshops.
The family engagement night at Sebring was a resounding success, bringing together students and families to explore the wonders of the universe and foster a love for space and science.
Overall, it was an unforgettable evening where kids learned about our place in space while having fun with their families in what can only be described as an out-of-this-world experience!
