The Ohio State women’s basketball team defeated East Carolina 79-55 in the Baha Mar Pink Flamingo Championship. The No. 15 Buckeyes were led by Jacy Sheldon, who scored 20 points and helped Ohio State maintain a double-digit advantage throughout the game. Taylor Thierry contributed 14 points and eight rebounds to the winning effort.
Ohio State got off to a strong start, scoring the first 10 points of the game and maintaining a 21-11 lead at the end of the first quarter. However, East Carolina’s Synia Johnson led a comeback in the second quarter, scoring eight of her 14 points to bring ECU within three points at halftime. But Ohio State came out strong in the second half, scoring 11 of the first 13 points to take a commanding lead of 49-34 and maintained it for the rest of the game.
Rebeka Mikulasikova contributed 12 points, while Cotie McMahon and Rikki Harris each had 11 for Ohio State. ECU’s Johnson and Amiya Joyner scored 14 and 12 points, respectively. Several technical fouls were issued during the game, including an ejection for ECU’s Jade Tillman after a hard foul in the third quarter.
Overall, Ohio State’s impressive performance secured a convincing victory in the tournament, setting up a match against Oklahoma State in their next game.
