Orbán and Allies Unveil Right-Wing Alliance Initiative

Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orbán recently announced the formation of a new political alliance called “Patriots for Europe” with his allies from Austria and the Czech Republic. He made the announcement in Vienna, where he was joined by the chairman of the Austrian “Freedom” party, Herbert Kickl, and the former Czech Prime Minister and leader of the opposition ANO party, Andrej Babis.

Orbán, a vocal critic of Brussels, stated that the alliance’s dominance will become evident within a matter of days. The creation of this alliance comes as Orbán’s Fidesz party, which has been a dominant force in Hungarian politics since 2010, faces isolation after leaving the European Parliament’s EPP group in 2021 under the threat of expulsion. This move by Orbán aims to solidify his position and that of his allies in the European political landscape.
