North Dakota Health Officials Issue Urgent Warning about Recalled Mushroom Edibles Linked to Death

In North Dakota, health officials are issuing a warning to residents about recalled mushroom edibles that may have been linked to a death in the state. The Prophet Premium Blends Diamond Shruumz products were recalled on June 28, and residents are being advised not to consume, sell, or serve these products. These items include chocolate bars, cones, gummies, and other related products that may still be available online or at retailers that sell hemp-derived, smoking, and vaping products.

The North Dakota Health and Human Services and the poison control center have identified a death in the state that may be connected to Diamond Shruumz products. Investigations are being carried out with the Food and Drug Administration and other state partners to determine the cause of this death. The recalled products contain muscimol, a chemical found in mushrooms of the genus Amanita, which can cause symptoms experienced by those who become ill after consuming these products.

According to the FDA, as of July 2, there have been 48 illnesses reported in 24 states related to these products. Of those affected, 46 people sought medical care and 27 were hospitalized.
